Dakota Business secures Point of Sale customers

Securing a Point of Sale network from hackers is becoming the number one priority for restaurant owners.  After nearly two hundred restaurant POS systems in the South East United States were breached from a hacker in Romania, restaurants are starting to evaluate their POS network security.  The hacker was able to steal hundreds of credit card numbers after hacking the networks and installing software that woould record keystrokes and credit card numbers after they were swiped.  As a result, hundreds of credit card numbers were stolen and a one hundred thousand dollar fine was levied by Visa against some restaurant owners and the maker of that particular POS system.

Dakota Business POS network security is a service it has provided its customers since it entered the POS market.  Dakota Business secures Point of Sale customers primarily with a Cisco firewall that provides three additional layers of secutity.  Including these extra measures of security listed below will also help bring restaurant owners into Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and provide card number security.

Install and maintain a firewall configuration to protect cardholder data
Do not use vendor-supplied defaults for system passwords and other security parameters
 Protect stored cardholder data
Encrypt transmission of cardholder data across open, public networks
Use and regularly update anti-virus software
Develop and maintain secure systems and applications
Restrict access to cardholder data by business need-to-know
Assign a unique ID to each person with computer access
Restrict physical access to cardholder data
Track and monitor all access to network resources and cardholder data
Regularly test security systems and processes
Maintain a policy that addresses information security
